The Highlands Theatre Group is pleased to announce that their season of ‘Anne of Green Gables’ has been successfully rescheduled.
At 4:55pm Thursday evening October 23rd, Wingecaribbee Shire Council informed HTG that the Mittagong Playhouse had been deemed unfit for use and closed for safety reasons, and that their season of AGG scheduled to commence the following day could not proceed. All sets, costumes, technical equipment and personal items are currently unable to be retrieved from the theatre, and 1200 odd tickets were refunded over the weekend.
On Friday and Saturday emergency talks were held, and through the kindness and co-operation of Chevalier College ‘Anne of Green Gables’ will now proceed, with five performances confirmed for November 21-24 at Chevalier’s new ‘Performing Arts Centre’ in Burradoo.
The Highlands Theatre Group has been humbled and is grateful for the outpouring of public sentiment that has been expressed and offered as a result of these unfortunate circumstances, with hundreds of messages of support offered from all quarters of the Southern Highlands community. We affirm the decision to place public safety as the number one priority, and hope that positive outcomes may yet emerge from this scenario.
With dozens of offers of help extended and gratefully received, The Highlands Theatre Group simply ask the community to get behind and attend this wonderful production, which will assist in limiting the financial losses inevitably suffered by the group.
Please note: Performances for ‘Anne of Green Gables’ will be performed at alternate venue, Chevalier College Performing Arts Centre, Burradoo. Access is via Charlotte Street:
Our preferred dining partner is The Glass Cafe Mittagong.
