In Saturday Night at the Canberra Theatre, Canberra Area Theatre Awards held their ceremony for 2017 Canberra and Regional Theatre’s productions.
On a night which featured many Southern Highlands shows from 2017, Chevalier College, Oxley College, New and Used Productions, On 4 Young and Old and Pigs Fly Productions, cast and crew from HTG’s upcoming Belfast Girls had been nominated for Awards.
For his work on On 4 Young and Old’s Blackadder, our very own Ron Russell was nominated for his costume design. With a long history of dressing performers of the Highlands, Ron is busy working on the very detailed outfits for the 1850’s period which set the tone for the play.
For their work in Pig’s Fly’s Vagina Monologues, cast members Sarah Elias, Kirsten Smith and Ellie Thomson were nominated for Best Ensemble in a Play. They were nominated along with the rest of the cast of Vagina Monologues, which also features Belfast Girls Assistant Director Brigid Gregg and her sister and Belfast Girls Photographer Rachel Gregg.
There was much anticipation on the night due to the nature of the work and it was an exciting moment to hear that the girls won their award and were the best ensemble in a play in the Canberra and Regional Area for 2017. Highlands Theatre Group Congratulates them and look forward to seeing what depth and strength they will be bringing to the roles they inhabit for Belfast Girls.
Tickets will be on sale from 3rd of March, so keep your ears to the ground and eyes to the website as more news about this play comes through.
